The Chicago Cubs franchise and Wrigley Field are currently for sale. There is a real possibility that, in the very near future, when Wrigley Field is sold, the naming rights for Wrigley Field may be then sold to generate revenue for the new owner. It doesn't matter what the money is used for, the name will be lost forever!
The purpose of the "Keep It Wrigley" web site is to provide a common voice for anyone who has ever enjoyed a visit to Wrigley Field and wants to express their desire for Wrigley Field to remain Wrigley Field.
Our goal is not to prevent the new owner of Wrigley Field the opportunity to generate revenue, but instead make it known that we believe the best route to success with Wrigley Field is to retain and embrace its history; there are many Wrigley fans who would prefer the name to remain Wrigley Field. The new owner should look for new and creative ways to generate revenue from the ballpark while maintaining Wrigley Field as an icon of baseball history.
To accomplish this goal we all need to work together to be heard - every voice adds to the volume. If that volume is loud enough, someone will listen.
So, if you believe like we do, that Wrigley should remain Wrigley, register on this site to add your voice to the preservation of the Wrigley Field name.

We Chicagoans have endured the loss of so many of our beloved institutions names and we've done it gracefully though regretfully. Marshall Fields...now Macy's. Comiskey Park... now U.S. Cellular Field. Cook County Hospital...now John Stroger Hospital. Please please show some understanding and love for us Chicagoans who ever you are that buys our beloved Wrigley Field and keep her name Wrigley Field we'll show up in droves really we will to thank you and we'll even buy you a good cold beer...how's that? Truly we Chicagoans would be forever grateful that you showed us the respect of keeping Wrigley Field just that...Wrigley Field.

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
Couldn't Wrigley Field be designated a national landmark?(or even a state landmark?) Then it could be preserved in an appropriate manner.

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
If the naming rights can be sold separately from actually owning the stadium... then... shouldn't we band together and buy those naming rights? And so that it never falls into others' hands, we put it into some kind of trust?
And from there... we, the people, will hold the naming rights to Wrigleyfield....
but if that cannot be done... then my request to any new owner is this...
please keep Wrigleyfield in the name... i.e. Welcome to SMITH Furniture's Wrigleyfield Stadium, Welcome to Comcast's Wrigleyfield Stadium, etc.
Wrigleyfield is already a time tested and successful brand name in it's own right... as in.. Wrigleyfield is known World Wide by hundreds of millions if not, a billion people!
Long live Wrigleyfield!!!

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
Not sure how much good it would do but could we have a petition that could be presented to Zell, maybe so he at least gets an idea how we feel? Or maybe he's as cold hearted and greedy as I think he is and it won't make any difference.

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
Everyone knows the " Wrigley Field " name. They even kept the name after the wrigley family sold it. I think having some corporation take advantage of a landmark so they can beat whatever it is they are trying to market in our face is absurd. It just goes to show that people are only about dollars and cents. The Cubs fan base will be forever stained if the name changes and all of us Cubs fans will not adjust well if this occurs. We will still love our cubs but not the people who control it. I hope this petition will be a good step forward to save the name of the beloved confines.

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
I totally agree with lazarus92kx on the idea of fans buying the naming rights!!! If there is anyway possible we should start it on this website and have Cub fans from all over donate whatever they can to save Wrigley. If it doesn't work then people can just get there money back but its definately worth a shot and it would be awesome for the people of Chicago and Cub fans worldwide to own the naming rights to Wrigley.

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
There are three big ball parks: Fenway PARK, Yankees STADIUM, and the one us as Cubs fans are proud of Wrigley FIELD. The three largest baseball franchises with the three largest fan bases have the three best places to play. You can't mess with this grateness. You can't by into your sponcers. No matter how much money is on the line. You don't mess with tradition. You don't mess with the love of the game. And im telling you right now, you don't mess with Cubs fans! We are always supportive of our team, no matter how they are doing. The seats in Wrigley Field will sell out. We even help other teams look like they have a lot of fans by traveling long distances to see our team. The least someone can do is let us have our field stay the same!

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
The link to this site was included in the Cubs mailbag on the official site today (3/17). I've noticed more than 1000 people have joined, I'm sure as a result of that link. That's how I got here. So I think I speak for everyone involved in throwing a great big Wrigley Field "THANK YOU" to Carrie Muskat for the link. I hope the efforts of everyone here are not wasted. The infusion of cash would do a lot of good, but the name Wrigley Field is priceless. I'll deal with the nets under the upper deck for a few more years if it means it stays Wrigley Field.

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
Think about the surrounding area businesses! If Wrigley isn't Wrigley, then there would be no more Wrigleyville!! and if fan attendance slowed, what would happen to the places all around there. Also, I will never buy another Tribune again. Sun Times it is from now on. Way to go Zell.

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
I do not believe that signing a petition and giving it to the owners will have the desired effect. I propose that a petition be started stating that Cub fand across the nation will boycott the products of any company that purchases the naming rights. If we devalue the product it will not sell.

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
Why can't they do something that the Bears did a few years back. The hadChase bank partner with them to help generate revenue. It was naming rights in a different way. If you go the www.chicagobears.com, you see Presented By Chase on it. They also get the bulk of the advertising at the stadium, but Soldier Field is still Soldier Field. By doing this the Cubs will still have Wrigley Field, but be able to draw the revenue of a corporate sponsor.

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
What people like Zell don't seem to get is that It's the "Everyday Guy", that buys the tickets, food and merchandise. Further, what gets lost in the translation is that CUBS fans are the most loyal and true fans in the world. Taking the name Wrigley Field and selling it off is plain downright disrespectful to the Cubs and it's fans. It's not just our cash that has been spent their but for some of us, it's our life's blood that has been invested in Wrigley Field! There's only two real ball parks left in MLB. That other one doesn't matter and the newer joints are well architecured amusement parks. Our field may need some work but from the bleachers to the top of the stadium when you walk in you know your at a baseball game. I can live with an overhauling as long as they keep the ivy on the walls and the name on the door. Keep Wrigley Field

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
I think it really should be considered a landmark. When people think of baseballs originals you think of places like Wrigley or Fenway. Plus I dont really feel like renaming my dog whose name is Wrigley. LOL

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
There was a mention of the site in today's Chicago Sun-Times (April 1), which is how I found out about it. This site is a great way to gather the growing legions of fans who feel there must be something done to prevent this shameless desecration of one of baseball's premiere venues. There are many different options for raising revenue available to the owner/owners of Wrigley Field. Probably the worst and most damaging would be to physically add their name to the ballpark. Sam Zell just doesn't get it. Wrigley is more than just a name, it's a state of mind.

Re: What's "Keep It Wrigley" all about?
If they change wrigley than lets change every important building names and sell them out. The sears tower, John Hancock building, Heck even the water tower. Wrigley is the 2nd oldest ballpark in the u.s. We lost comisky, chicago stadium even the rosemont horizion!! I want my daughter to see the cubbies play at wrigley field. Lets go cub fans lets stand up to these guys and save wrigley. This is the greatest ballpark in the world lets keep it that way. Whats next renaming the cubs? heck no!!! I agree with foreverwrigley "wrigley is more than just a name, its a state of mind." Lets save our beloved ballpark!!!!!
